Food & Drink

More than ever, Americans are eating their pizza. Statistics show that in 2018, the United States pizza market grew to $45.1 billion, an increase from 2017. Additionally, pizza sales account for roughly ten percent of all food service sales. However, for a country that has such an affinity for the delicious meal, too many Americans eat pizza from chain restaurants instead of eating locally.

Why Avoid Chain Pizza Restaurants

When ordering pizza from a chain, you can never be sure of what you’re getting. Ingredients are often frozen as they are transported across the United States. That’s because chain restaurants must ensure that their products taste the same from one location to another. For example, a chain restaurant must be careful about using tomatoes from local farmers. Otherwise, a chain restaurant pizza in California may taste different than that same pizza in Maryland.

Similarly, research has shown that chain pizza often contains hidden ingredients. When people complain that chain pizza tastes like “cardboard” or that it tastes “fake,” that’s because it contains preservatives and unnatural ingredients, such as:

  • Modified Food Starch

  • Maltodextrin

  • Hydrolyzed Corn Gluten

Why Choose Local Pizza?

When eating local pizza, you can ensure that restaurant owners put time and effort into their product. Many local pizzerias choose only to use the freshest of ingredients. As a result, choosing local pizza can also help support the farmers in your area as well. When customers shop local as opposed to chain stores, a more substantial portion of the revenue share cycles back into the local economy.

Additionally, when choosing local pizza, you are supporting an entrepreneur’s dream. You are supporting the vision of someone who longed to open their business and who works tireless hours to help build their brand. When purchasing chain pizza, you are merely pouring money back into large corporations.

Supporting your local pizzeria can also stimulate the economy in your area because the restaurant will create more jobs. The more successful a restaurant is, the more likely they are to expand and add jobs. Local pizzerias may also pay better, or provide better benefits, than chain restaurants.

Treat Your Taste Buds With Delicious Local Pizza

The average American eats 6,000 slices of pizza in his or her lifetime. Why waste your time eating bland pizza from a chain? It's time to contact your local pizzeria and treat yourself to good pie.

By far one of the best vegan pizzas we've ever had. Staff was very friendly and patient with me as I ordered and we had a nice chat when I picked the pie up. We planned to take it home but didn't make - ate it in a parking lot!

I would not be doing my part as a decent human being if I did not warn everyone - do NOT get the Chicken Alfredo. Its like they cut up chicken nuggets, tossed it in with some tuna helper noodles, forgot to mix in the milk and butter with tuna helper alfredo mix, so instead they sprinkled some pizza cheese on it and threw it in the oven. I got this because its hard to mess up chicken alfredo, but Heavenly Pizza’s version somehow pulled it off. They were the last place delivering in the middle of a snowstorm, so they get a star for that.
